Most guards come off the screen trying to outrun the defender… and end up getting pushed wide, cut off, or forced into a bad shot.
The snake does the opposite. Instead of racing downhill, you cross back over the screen, keep the defender on your back, and freeze the big just long enough to create real space. When you do it right, the help defender can’t step up, the on-ball defender is stuck behind you, and you’re left with an easy pull-up or a clean lane to the rim.
In this clip, you’ll see:
- How to come off the screen tight without drifting
- When to snake back across the big’s body
- Why this move slows the defense down instead of speeding you up
Work on it like this: walk through the footwork first, then go game speed once the timing feels natural. The goal isn’t speed — it’s control. When you snake correctly, the defense makes the mistake for you.
