Zane Grothe and Marcelo Acosta battled it out in the men’s 800m, with the two neck and neck for most of the race before Grothe pulled away over the final 200 meters. Grothe ended up with the win, touching first in 7:55.78. Acosta couldn’t match Grothe’s pace coming home, but finished second with a 7:59.17. Grothe’s win earns him back-to-back honors in the TYR Pro Swim Series 800m freestyle competition after he won the event in Des Moines in March, finishing in 7:54.28.
