Deep in Germany’s Eifel mountains lies one of the world’s great circuits, a true test of man and machine - where the laptime still means something, Porsche’s 2018 5:19.546 benchmark in the 919 Hybrid EVO LMP1 car a thing to fear and admire in equal quantities.

That track is, of course, the Nürburgring…and more specifically the 20.81 kilometre Nordschleife, variants of which hosted Formula One from 1950, including Sir Jackie Stewart’s legendary 1968 win at “the Green Hell” - in treacherous conditions - by over 4-minutes.
