The first WrestleMania to be held under such odd circumstances comes exactly a year after Becky Lynch’s triumphant coronation in the main event of WrestleMania last year. However, the lack of production for the WrestleMania in the performance center has seriously taken away from the WrestleMania vibe. WWE restored the ‘WrestleMania’ feeling by doing what they do best, squashing talent that looked poised to break out because of the existing status quo. Becky Lynch stood triumphant over Shayna Baszler after turning a kirufuda clutch into a pin fall attempt. Why WWE would have Baszler lose this match after her historic elimination chamber victory is puzzling, but it was a blatant move to keep heat on Becky, who is still over but has lost a lot of momentum over time. Their match had a hot start and the action spilled over to the ringside area almost instantly. Baszler was controlling most of the match as the dominant heel, but Lynch was doing a good job of fighting from under the monster and the two were telling a compelling tale. This was a traditional match which saw the babyface persevere and come back to defeat the monster heel. It followed a traditional structure, but a structure that the likes of AEW and NXT have proven works less and less now.
