The eyes of the world continue to be on Italy’s northern Emilia Romagna region, with at least 14 people dead, and more than 36,000 evacuated from their homes as a result of severe flooding and landslides.

Local officials say some areas received half their average annual rainfall in 36 hours, estimated to be between 200 and 500 millimetres, which led to 14 rivers breaking their banks, 23 towns left flooded and the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
