Learn how to throw potshots to surprise your opponent, confuse, and keep him on the defense. A boxing potshot can be a tricky lead left, fast lead right, or any kind of single trick shot meant to score and confuse rather than to really hurt your opponent.

Once you can confuse your opponent with potshots, after you win the psychological battle, then he becomes vulnerable to your real power shots. Remember: boxing is 90% mental, 10% physical.
