Italy went into their final match of the 2013 Championship with some mixed results having lost the previous three rounds but would take confidence from their opening weekend victory over France.

Ireland travelled to Rome looking to finish on a high having won one, drawn one and lost two.

Both sides traded penalties early on with Italy leading 9-6 at the break. Eight minutes into the second half and with help from the TMO, Italy got the games only try after some strong work from their forwards. However, Ireland wouldn't go down easily and fly-half Paddy Jackson kicked three penalties to ensure a nervous ending for the home fans.

Italy's defence stood strong and with a late penalty going over they recorded their first ever victory over Ireland in the RBS 6 Nations.
