Bologna, Italy, September 21, 2018 - Brazil started off their journey in Round 2 of the FIVB Men’s World Championship in the best way as on Friday they outclassed the team of Australia 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15) in Bologna, thus recording their fifth victory in the tournament so far. Wallace De Souza together with Luiz Felipe ‘Lipe’ Fonteles and Douglas Souza did their job right and led the South American team towards the all-important win. The players coached by Renan Dal Zotto collected three important points on the road to Turin.

Brazil took advantage of the many unforced errors made by their opponents during the match, and were leading in the score for most of the time. However, they were not able to claim a comfortable advantage in the first two sets, since Australia’s players were able to play catch up almost all the time. The situation changed in the last set as the Brazilians showed their real face, thus producing a comprehensive 25-15 win.

For Australia Lincoln Williams topped the charts as best scorer for his team, putting 16 points to his name.

Australia started the matchup against the reigning Olympic champions without their captain – Paul Carroll. After Australia scored at the beginning of the match, Brazil, led by Wallace, responded with sharp attacks. However, Australia performed well at the net, breathing down Brazil’s necks at 5-4, but the first timeout came with the score standing at 8-5 for Brazil after an error by Williams. Both sides made errors from the service line before Australia levelled the score at 12 and again at 14-all after an ace by Williams. Wallace reacted properly, keeping on scoring, while Australia made some unforced errors to lose the first set at 21-25.

Wallace opened the second set with another thunderous spike, but the Australian players responded with two aces to tie the score at 5-5 and even take the lead after a block by Nehemiah Mote. The players coached by Renan Dal Zotto took the lead at 16-13. The Volleyroos did not give up easily, and got closer after an ace by Williams for 19-18 and even equalised at 20-20 and 21-21. Douglas Souza, however, put an end to the set at 25-22 for Brazil.

The third set unfolded with a close race in the first minutes, but Lipe did very well in attack. After scoring their 11th point, Brazil added five in a row to their tally to break away and eventually win the set at 25-15.
