Ethan Carter 3 made his return to NXT in January of 2018, when he was seen sitting in the audience at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia. WWE has a habit of brushing the past under the rug, but they actually acknowledged his failed past with the company as Derrick Bateman. Ever since his re-arrival on NXT, he has proven to be a lot more successful and is due for his main-roster debut any day now. He will probably be backed by a sizable push when he debuts, because he is a much bigger star then he was in his first go-around, having made a name for himself on the independent scene.
