Despite everything that has happened, WWE are still looked at as the apex of professional wrestling due to their years of history and a stacked roster. This doesn’t mean WWE still try to actively recruit people to join their ranks. Not only do people turn the WWE down from the outside, many people refuse to re-sign while still with the company. We are the Wrestling Hub and today we will be looking at 10 Wrestlers That Turned Down Big Contracts from the WWE.
Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy is one of the most recent wrestlers to have spurned the WWE and leave upon expiration of his contract. While Brodie Lee was released without an extension offer because of how upset he was within the company, WWE tried to get Matt to stay on with the company. They offered him more money and even the opportunity to transition into the role of a producer, but Hardy turned the offer down and made the natural career jump to AEW.
Hardy’s reasons for refusing to sign on with the WWE are for the same reasons that a large chunk of the wrestlers on this list turned their WWE contract offers down. The WWE system gives creative control to the higher ups, with exceptions being made for very few superstars. Hardy was disappointed with how his BROKEN gimmick was handled in the WWE, as the only notable thing he did was DELETE Bray Wyatt into becoming The Fiend. The underwhelming run of three years meant that Hardy will be going back to the place where he always enjoys success, the indies.
