John Cena is probably one of the greatest wrestlers to have ever stepped foot in the sport. There are so many things that make him as iconic as he is. He has had tremendous work-rate his entire career, proudly taking a full-time schedule even when he could have stopped functioning on one years ago. He prioritised wrestling over all other opportunities he got, as his introduction to Hollywood only happened after he had been unseated as the main guy in the WWE. He is the second biggest draw in professional history, having drawn over 15 million buys, ahead of wrestlers like The Rock, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. The biggest feather in Cena’s cap is his longevity. While iconic wrestlers like Steve Austin and The Rock ruled over WWE with an iron fist, their run at the top lasted a few years. Austin reigned from 1996 to 2002 and The Rock did from 1998 to 2003. Cena has been the undisputed number one of wrestling from 2005 to 2016. But that run that began in 2005 could have just ended in 2002, as John Cena was hovering around the ‘all the best with your future endeavours’ bubble. Why? How would the industry have been today if John Cena had been fired in 2002? This is Wrestling Hub and that is exactly what we are going to talk about today.
