The first test between South Africa and New Zealand ended in a draw after umpires decided that the wet outfield was still too wet to play on and called off day five without a ball being bowled at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban on Tuesday.South Africa had posted 263 all out in their first innings thanks to a splendid 53 from Hashim Amla. New Zealand were then reduced to 15-2 before lunch on day two with Dale Steyn picking up 2-3 off six overs. But rain began falling at lunch time on day two before heavy overnight rain, 65mm fell before the start of day three, saw day three and day four being abandoned without a ball being bowled because of a very soft and wet outfield. The umpires conducted an inspection on the morning of day five but decided that the field was still unplayable and decided to call the match off about 45 minutes before the scheduled start of play at 10am. The second test of the series starts at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday, August 27.
