For the second time I've seen in action this amazing 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan developed aerodynamically in this advanced body shape by Piero Drogo. Brought to the track from the young Austrian driver Lukas Halusa during the last round of the Nastro Rosso category organized by Peter Auto at the Imola track, he won both races. The car, S/N 2819GT, is based on the 250 GT SWB was commissioned by Count Giovanni Volpi to compete against the Ferrari 250 GTO. This car had previously competed in the 1961 Tour de France, where it took second place driven by Olivier Gendebien and Lucien Bianchi. This Breadvan or "La Camionnette", lower than GTO and with a shooting-brake style followed the Kamm aerodynamic theory. The car is equipped with a powerful 286 bhp Tipo 168 V12 engine with Testarossa-type heads. The original three 46 DCN Weber carburetors were replaced with six twin choke 38 DCN Webers and its weight is about 70 kilograms less than a Ferrari 250 GTO, 935 Kg Vs 1.000 Kg. The car won the GT class in two races during the 1962 season. Indeed a pleasure and honor to have filmed this car in action at the Imola racetrack, enjoy the video!
