Brasilia, Brazil, June 28, 2019 - In the opening of Week 5 in Brasilia, Canada upset Italy with a 3-1 win (15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18). The Canadians came back after losing the first set with a good performance by Stephen Maar and Nicholas Hoag and postponned the Italian dream to secure a spot in the Final Six.

Canada wing spiker Nicholas Hoag: "The key to our victory tonight was the passing. Italy is a very good blocking team, and once we got the passing stabilized we were able to run the offence, and be very efficient with our hitting."

Canada Coach Glenn Hoag: "For us it was a so-so start of the game, we could not receive well and they were not committing any mistakes, their serve and blocking was good. In the second set we stabilized our reception and we were able to diversify our offence and we are very happy"

Italy Captain Oleg Antonov: "We missed some crucial opportunities, and because of that, and some others mistakes we were behind. In the fourth set we played better, but it was not enough to change the scoreboard."
